Keep Pro Up to Date

Pro plugs into WordPress’s built-in update system so you can update Media Guard Pro the same way you update every other plugin — one click on the Plugins or Dashboard → Updates screen.

Short version. Activate your license. Then updates appear in WordPress like any other plugin. Click update. Done.

How updates reach your site

When your license is Active, Pro checks our server periodically for newer versions. If one exists, you’ll see the usual “Update available” notice on the Plugins page and in Dashboard → Updates. WordPress downloads the new ZIP, replaces the plugin files, and keeps your settings intact.

One-click update

  1. Open Plugins → Installed Plugins.
  2. Find PaulsPerfectPC Media Guard Pro. If a new version is out you’ll see “Update now” under the row.
  3. Click Update now. Your protected files, groups, log, and license key stay exactly where they are.

View details before you update

Click View version details next to the update notice to see the new version number, the minimum required PHP and WordPress versions, and the changelog. Use this to decide whether to update right away or wait.

Automatic updates (optional)

WordPress 5.5+ lets you turn on auto-updates per plugin:

  1. Open Plugins → Installed Plugins.
  2. In the PaulsPerfectPC Media Guard Pro row, click Enable auto-updates.

WordPress will then install future Pro updates for you in the background. This is safe for most sites — the plugin keeps its settings across updates.

If you don’t see updates

  • License is Inactive. Go to Media Guard → Pro License and activate. Without an active license, your site can’t authenticate to download the new ZIP. See Manage Your Pro License.
  • WordPress hasn’t checked yet. Open Dashboard → Updates and click Check again. WordPress caches update checks for up to 12 hours.
  • Your host blocks outbound HTTPS. Pro talks to wpmediaguard.com over HTTPS. Some managed hosts firewall outbound calls — ask support to allow wpmediaguard.com.

If an update fails

WordPress will roll back to the previous version automatically if a plugin update fails partway through. You’ll see a yellow notice. Try again in a few minutes, or update manually:

  1. Download the latest ZIP from your account at wpmediaguard.com/my-account.
  2. Deactivate the current Pro plugin in Plugins.
  3. Use Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and choose the new ZIP. WordPress will offer to replace the existing copy — accept.
  4. Activate.

Your settings, groups, and log carry over.

What an Inactive license means for updates

If your license expires or is deactivated, Pro keeps working — protected files stay protected, the access log keeps logging, your groups stay intact. You just stop receiving new versions until you renew or re-activate.
